A British military document from the First World War mentions that there are two kinds of airships, A-rigid and B-limp. Thus you get the origin of the word “Blimp.” I use this terminology to describe my inflatable sculptures. I make two distinct types out of clear soft PVC sheeting. One is made out of the sheeting only, the B-limp, and the other has a piece of rigid clear acrylic sheet inserted inside, the A-rigid.
